As the Estimates for 1850 now under preparation shall be submitted to His Excellency, I refrain at present from making any further remarks on this quarterly Account.
That at no previous period the Colony has been in such a prosperous state as it is at present, will best be seen on reference to the enclosed Return of the Revenue in the last half year.
The Revenue collected during the first six months of this year amounts to £19,954. 14. 9¼, and the Police Rates would, if collected as prescribed by Ordinance, viz: at the commencement of each quarter, have been £20,500 Sterling, or only from £3,000 to 4,000 less than the Revenue of each of the five years from 1849 to 1853 inclusive.
As the Revenue of the Current year will be £12,000 in excess of the Estimate, His Excellency the Governor may perhaps deem it his duty to consider if, under these circumstances, he will authorize the drawing of the £3,000 voted by the Imperial Parliament for...
